THE festive season will kick off in Settle with the switching on of the lights in the Market Place from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday, November 26.

Children and adults will be able to see Santa and his grotto in the square throughout the afternoon ahead of his annual tour of Settle and surrounding villages.

“I hope everyone will take advantage of Santa’s schedule to come to his grotto at the lights’ switch-on, " said John Digles, president of Settle Rotary Club.

"I hope people will also come out and see him when he is touring the area, or at Booths Supermarket. He does like to meet children of all ages, and this is the occasion when we collect for local charities, individuals and good causes.”

Santa will be touring the area with his Rotarian helpers from Settle at: Long Preston on Friday, December 2, at 5pm; Hellifield on Monday, December 5, and Tuesday, December 6, from 5pm; Langcliffe on Thursday December 8, at 5pm; Austwick on Friday, December 9, from 5pm; and then at Clapham, from 6pm; Rathmell on Monday, December 12, at 5pm, followed by Wigglesworth, at 6pm; Giggleswick village, on Tuesday, December 13, from 5pm; Horton, on Wednesday December 14, at 5pm, followed by Helwith Bridge, and then Stainforth; The Mains, Giggleswick, on Friday, December 16, from 5pm; followed by Stackhouse at 6pm.

Santa will be at Booths in Settle on Saturday, December 3 and on Saturday, December 17, between 10am and 4pm.

He will also be in upper Settle and Longdale Avenue, on Thursday, December 1; at Mill Close and Northfields, on Wednesday, December 7; at the Market Place on Saturday, December 10, between 10am and 4pm; at Duke Street and Cammock Lane on Monday, December 19, and at Townhead, Church Street, Duke Street and Kings Mill on Tuesday, December 20.
