The full closure of Victoria Bridge at Kendal has notched up the traffic chaos by several degrees!
Didn't anyone predict this when opponents scotched or stalled the idea of a road link from Plumgarths to Shap Road and adjacent industrial area?
Such a scheme would bring much-needed daily relief to the town and a safety net which is so elusive at the moment!
Losing such a vital bridge over the Kent has been a disaster waiting to happen. The sooner we can circumvent Kendal to the north of the town the better chance of keeping the town moving, come hail or snow, floods or a broken bridges, road works or M6 closures.
The northern link is the vital and much-needed flight path we need!
Of course that will take a couple of years to sort but what about that broken Victoria Bridge? Well, surely Her Majesty's armed forces could easily erect a temporary bridge for pedestrians and light vehicles straddling the present structure, all the weight firmly placed on the approach roads at each end. The boys would love a real-life exercise of skills and the town could keep moving.
