The first two opening matches of the season have gone very well for Kendal - a 4-1 win over Worksop on Saturday was followed up by a dramatic 3-2 away win at Ashton on Monday.

Saturday's 4-1 win over Worksop in the end proved to be a comfortable victory for the team. Kendal’s fitness was far superior to Worksop’s and apart from a spell in the first half when Worksop equalised, Kendal were pretty much on top the whole way through.

The Monday night match at Ashton was a lot harder than Saturday’s match. Town played some good football, but Ashton were up-and-at Kendal pretty much from the start and the match swung either way.

Kendal got off to a flyer and then Ashton came back at us.

The match sort of followed that pattern, and in the second half, when the scores were 2-2, it was always going to take something special to win the match and that something special was produced by Keiran Walmsley who in the 78th minute unleashed an unstoppable shot from 40 yards which flew into the back of the net.

The goal definitely deserved to win the match and already at this early stage could be the goal of the season and we are only two matches in!

For me Keiran has been one of the star performers in the last two matches and there's definitely more to come from him and the team.

The frightening thing for the rest of the division Is that Kendal can play better and when they do they are going to be a hard team to beat.

Kendal of course will be keen to keep their early season momentum going when they make the 4 and a ½ trip to Boston at the weekend. Boston have made 10 changes to their side, including a new management set up with the former Ilkeston town joint managers in charge. It’s going to be the big match in the Unibond and Kendal are going to have to keep their good form up for this match as Boston are coming off a 2-1 win away at FC United last weekend and will be fully rested as they didn’t have a game in midweek.

So another big match guaranteed and Kendal will be looking to stay top of the league come 4.45 on Saturday.
