THE recent dry spell has allowed us to get our lime spread on the land and so far we’ve spread about 70 acres.
We decided to do it ourselves so we hired our local contractor’s lime spreader, and hopefully by the time you’ve read this it will have got washed in with a bit of light rain – the lime came from Holme Park Quarry, near Kendal.
We’ve also been doing some draining and we had a lad come and do all the digging for us.
I took two days off this week to go on refresher foot trimming course which was extremely worthwhile, learning new methods and getting rid of bad habits.
We waved goodbye to the wintering sheep too as they have gone home, and we’ve also just clamped 100 tonne of pressed sugar beet pulp – the sileage pit is racing towards the back at great speed so we’re adding pressed pulp to the cows’ diet to take out some of the silage, which will hopefully last into the summer now.
