Kendal Squash Club’s B Team continued their good run of form with a comfortable 4-1 win over Windscale on Tuesday night.

The B’s who have excelled this season showed plenty of quality against a very good and determined opponent.

In the first game Kendal's Ian Garnett eased to a comfortable 3-0 win over Windscale's Alan Singleton. Garnett dropped just seven points in the three sets played, winning 15-2,15-3 and 15-2.

Steve Couper was next up after he defeated Thomas Beale in a five-set thriller. Couper who was up against a much younger opponent showed plenty of grit and determination to claim the win.

He raced out of the blocks to win the first set 15-11, however Beale showed plenty of class to win the second set 15-12.

In a game which ebbed and flowed, Couper regained the lead in the third set and was on the verge of victory in the fourth. However Beale battled back from the jaws of defeat to win the set 18-16 as the game was all square at 2-2.

However Couper overpowered Beale to take the fifth and decisive set 15-10, as he picked up the points with the 3-2 win.

In the other games Kendal's Ben Cook defeated Ian Richardson 3-1. Cook dropped just one set in an otherwise dominant performance.

Kendal's number one seed was also victorious after he picked up a straight sets win over Sam Nichol, while Graeme Braithwaite lost out 3-1 to Windscale's Ross Singleton. Braithwaite dropped the first game and despite winning the second set he was unable to push on after Singleton picked up the last two sets to claim the win

The C team did not fare as well away to Penrith’s A team. None of the matches extended beyond three sets, and Kendal’s only came from Den Watson. The result leaves Kendal C near the bottom of the league table with only Penrith B below them. Penrith A are pushing Kendal B for fourth position, but Kendal B’s 18 league points saw them edge a point further ahead of Penrith who took 17 points from the night. As usual, league leaders Carlisle are way out in front, with Appleby in second place nearly 40 points behind. Only five points separate Whitehaven, Kendal and Penrith, so third place is very much up for grabs in the last three matches of the season.
