Kendal B team lost 20-7 to a very strong Appleby Team on Tuesday night.

The Bs went into the game as underdogs against a team that had dropped down from the Premier League, while their only defeat of the season was by league leaders Carlisle.

The scoreline didn’t reflect the game as Kendal could have won three of the matches played however clinical finishing and misfortune saw the visitors home to victory.

In the first game Kendal's Ian Garnett suffered a narrow 3-1 defeat to Appleby’s Jeff Broadhurst. Broadhurst edged the first two sets 16-8 and 13-15, however Garnett bounced back to take the third set 15-11.

However Broadhurst proved too strong as he powered his way to claim the fourth set 15-10.

The second game saw Appleby’s Dick Furness pick up a 3-2 win over Steve Couper. Furness started on the offensive and claimed the first two sets 15-11 and 15-13, however Couper started to slow the game down and began to move Furness round the court. The tactic worked as Couper battled back to take the next two sets.

In the decisive set Couper missed an easy drop shot after racing into a 10-6 lead, which proved crucial as Furness battled his way back into the game to seal the win 14-16.

In the other games Ben Cook lost 3-1 to Appleby’s Michael Dowdling, while Kendal’s Graeme Braithwaite lost by the same score line as he fell to Martin Awde.

The last game of the night saw John Bowman overcome Kendal’s Andy Chant 3-2. Chant started well and claimed the first set 15-10 before Bowman powered his way through the next two sets to go 2-1 up. Chant tied the game in the fourth set before Bowman sealed the win 13-5 in the decisive set.
