Thank you for giving space in your newspaper to South Lakeland District Council’s desire to develop a masterplan for Kendal (Gazette, September 3, ‘Project wants to spark new vibrant town’).

While not explicitly stated, a reader might gain the impression from your article that decisions have already been taken as to the content of a masterplan. This is not the case. Noel Farrer, who is quoted in your article, has some important ideas as to how Kendal might be developed in the future. We want to hear from him and from all other interested parties as to what should go into the plan.

We will be working closely with the county council, the town council, the B I D, Kendal Futures and the civic society, as well as other interested organisations.

We will be forming a stakeholder group to work with us in the development of this masterplan and, of course, we will want to hear from residents.

I hope readers will be assured that we will be seeking a wide range of opinion before coming to any conclusions as to the content of the masterplan.
