Today I have visited my parents' grave at Parkside Road cemetery at Kendal. To say that I am disgusted is an understatement.

I have never seen it in such a terrible mess. The entrance was dirty with what appeared to be builders' dirt and an un-cleaned area.

On the right hand side is a huge pile of soil just dumped up to what was the chapel. A small memorial tablet of someone’s loved one is just dumped on a scruffy, unkempt, empty flower bed.

We then went to collect some water. This area is just a dumping ground with a tiny pathway to the tap - everything from railings, wooden pallets and cones totally scruffy and the pathways are uneven and need repairing.

After placing flowers and cleaning the headstone we decided to have a walk through the other side to visit my aunt’s grave. What a difference. It was like visiting another cemetery altogether, no builders' mess, commercial bins for dead flowers and beautifully kept, spotlessly clean - just as it should be.

I know that letters have been written to you in the past about this matter but I feel incensed that our council has deemed it unimportant enough to ignore. The dead who have lived and served in Kendal and their families deserve better service.
