I read the Lakeland Sinfonia concert review(Gazette, October 8, 'Novel move that failed to inspire').
Full marks, indeed, to Lakeland Sinfonia for including in its September 26 concert Arriaga's Symphony, probably written when he was only 17.
Arriaga's importance musically and the strength of the performance are matters of personal opinion, but to refer to him as unknown to everybody is a sweeping statement, both belittling and misleading.
To give one example: over the years the Symphony has been publicly performed locally on three separate occasions by the Westmorland Orchestra.
