We’re now well into the official referendum campaign, so I’m more than a little disappointed that those who want Britain to leave the EU still haven’t made any serious attempt to spell out what would happen if we were to leave.

All the 'Vote leave' website says is that: “There is a European free trade zone from Iceland to the Russian border and we will be part of it.”

Yes, it’s called the European Economic Area (EEA), and includes all EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Trouble is, every country within the EEA has to accept European laws, allow free movement of citizens, and pay a contribution to the EU budget - all things I thought the 'Leave' camp were bitterly opposed to.

So the Leave camp are obviously talking about a different free trade zone. But they don’t tell us what this will consist of, or what its rules might be.

Do they mean a free trade zone based on the treaties the Swiss have signed with the EU? Or maybe they want something like the treaty the Canadians have recently signed with the EU after several years of negotiation?

And then again, maybe they want something completely different from all these models. Fine - but they have a duty to tell us all what they’re aiming for. What would any new treaty cover? Tariffs? Export documentation? Product regulations? Provision of services? Or what?

Come on, Brexiteers, spell out what sort of future you want for us!
