I am writing as the chairman of Windermere Orchestra. A few weeks ago I came across some orchestral music with the name Windermere Village Orchestra stamped on it which is now in the ownership of the Westmorland Youth Orchestra.
I wondered if any of your readers might have some knowledge of this orchestra.
I believe it may have ceased to meet during the last war because of travel difficulties. It would be very interesting to find anyone who might have information about it so that we can add it to our history archive.
The current Windermere Orchestra was set up in 1981 by Charlotte Sefton and is a thriving, talented, all-age group of more than 30 players who meet at the Carver Church Hall, Windermere, every Thursday evenings under the baton of Richard Bagnall.
We are not well known in the area because we are a low-stress, welcoming group, who play mainly for our own enjoyment and rarely give public performances. However, we are always happy to welcome new players, preferably of level 5 ability or over.
If you have any information about Windermere Village Orchestra or want to come and play with us, please contact me at arthurbaldry@yahoo.co.uk or ring me on 015395 33829
