WHILE there is universal outrage at President Trump's announcement that the United States would withdraw from the Paris climate accord, there is universal support here in Cumbria for a coal mining plan that would tick all Donald Trump's boxes.
The planning application for West Cumbria Mining's new undersea coal mine was submitted to Cumbria County Council's Kendal offices a day before the highly criticised Trump announcement.
In contrast, all the political parties here in Cumbria have voiced unequivocal support for the first coal mine in England for 30 years.
We hope that this is some kind of blip and sanity will resume.
