SELECTED to represent Scotland at under-18 level, Callum Sheldon is the latest model to roll off the Underley Park production line.

With the prospect of representative fixtures against England and Ireland as well as an under-18 tournament in Poland, the 17-year-old could receive international honours by the end of the season.

A forward most often seen in the number eight position, Sheldon joined Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC in 2007 aged 11 and received a call-up to the Cumbria squad during the 2008/9 campaign.

A year later he tasted Under-14 County Cup glory as Kirkby beat Carlisle in the final – the youngest side in the club’s history to win a trophy.

Sheldon was selected as part of the Newcastle Falcons under-15 squad in the 2010/11 season and has been with the north east outfit ever since.

Qualifying for Scotland through his maternal grandparents, he was spotted playing for Falcons during an under-16 match and asked by Scottish Exiles to become part of their squad.

After being invited to the full Scotland under-17 summer training camp in Valladolid last summer, he has proceeded to make his Kirkby Lonsdale first-team debut this season.
