Kendal Judo Club’s Callum Clee returned from a major under-21 tournament in Walsall having secured a bronze medal.
In the final pool of the under-55kg category, Clee had an inauspicious start and fell foul of new rules in relation to stepping out the contest area.
It came as little consolation that his opponent, Dominic Reilly from Edinburgh, received a similar penalty in a later contest.
With a bronze medal at stake, Clee’s last clash of the day was against Elliott Gladwin from Northolt, London.
With less than a minute to go, the Kendal judoka produced a Major Outer Reaping attack for the full point and the medal.
