Kendal 1 - 1 Liverpool Sefton

A VICKY Jones penalty flick equaliser saw Kendal pick up their first point in their Investec Women's Hockey League Conference North fixture against Liverpool Sefton on Saturday.

After last weekend's 7-1 defeat away at Sutton Coldfield, Kendal were determined to find a response but found themselves trailing after 12 minutes when a penalty corner deflected shot flew past goalkeeper Fiona Battersby.

Kendal kept their leads and carried on battling and were rewarded within four minutes when Jones coolly scored past the visiting stopper.

The scores were level at half time and the second half saw the play moving with pace from end to end but neither team could find a winner.

"We wanted to focus on improving on the previous week’s result against Sutton Coldfield," said Battersby. "We came out strong against Liverpool Sefton and were determined to pick some points up.

"We were happy to get a point from the game but three would have been better!"

Kendal host Brooklands Poynton at Kirkbie Kendal School on Saturday with a 2.30pm push back.

"It will be a tough game as Brooklands finished top of the league last season but we will go in determined and will look for some points," said Battersby.
