Penrith Ladies 2

Kendal Town Ladies 1

THERE was Cumbria County Cup heartbreak for Kendal Ladies as they bow out at the semi final stages after losing 2-1 to holders Penrith at Frenchfields.

In what was a repeat of last season's final, Kendal started brightly going 1-0 up on 20 minutes thanks to an unstoppable free kick from Bella Martindales.

Kendal were the better of the two teams in the first half as they pressed the hosts however they failed to score a vital second goal.

However, Penrith could have drawn level through a Nat Broad effort that struck the crossbar.

The turning point in the game was at half time when Penrith brought on new signing, former Blackburn Rovers Ladies striker Katie Anderton.

This proved pivotal as Anderton equalised midway through the second half with a clinical finish getting on to a pin-point Broad delivery.

Penrith piled on the pressure but Kendal dug deep defensively to keep them at bay

But with the game seemingly heading for extra time, Anderton struck again with the clock running out to guide Penrith into the final,

The holders will now go on to face Carlisle United in the final.
