THE Mintcakes found success in both the Macron Cup and County Cup Competitions including a six-nil victory.

Jimmy Marshall’s team have taken a break in the North West Counties Premier Division League campaign, but on Saturday Steve Yawsons last minute goal saw Kendal Town come from 1-0 down before defeating Atherton LR 2-1 in the Macron Cup before the Mintcakes ran out emphatic 6-0 winners against Keswick in the County Cup on Tuesday night.

Kendal who hadn’t had the best of experiences in cup competition are keen to do well in this season’s cup campaigns although they were made to work in both games against two spirited opponents.

At the weekend Kendal were off the pace during the first half where Jamie Hills goal on 30 minutes gave Atherton the 1-0 lead at half time.

Kendal was indebted to a string of fine saves by Danny Roccia who kept the hosts at bay, however a more imposing second half performance saw Kendal battle back, where Robert Parkers 57th minute goal saw the Mintcakes equalise before Steve Yawson’s winning strike in the last second of the game edged Kendal into the next round.

However, on Tuesday night Kendal faced the challenge of Keswick at Parkside Road, and the Mintcakes opened the scoring after nine minutes when a free kick in from the right by Ryan Winder was headed in for an own goal by a Keswick player.

Kendal controlled the first half while Keswick attempted to disrupt the home team’s momentum with some strong challenges.

Kendal appealed for a penalty when Finlay Lynch appeared to have been clipped in the box by a Keswick defender, while Robert Parker produced a spectacular diving header which halted a dangerous cross into the penalty area by the visitors.

Keswick created their best opportunity of the half after Declan Robinson was denied by Danny Roccia, before Chris Wraighte cleared away the danger.

The Mintcakes made an imposing start to the second half and were 2-0 up on 48 minutes after Ryan Winder unleased an unstoppable 30-yard free kick into the top corner of the net.

Kendal went onto dominate creating numerous opportunities with Aaron Hoyle slicing his effort over before Steve Yawson scored the Mintcakes third on 62 minutes after he fired home from close range.

The home team applied even more pressure on the visitors before Finlay Lynch prodded the ball home for Kendal’s 4th goal on 70 minutes before an own goal on 83 and Tom Kilifin’s injury time strike completed the rout for Kendal who ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

Kendal host Longridge in The FA Vase on Saturday before hosting Winsford United in the league on Tuesday night.
