Kendal Towns Ladies team picked up their first league win of the season after they defeated Sir Tom Finney’s Women’s Development 4-1 in a crucial game for both teams.

The Ladies who are managed by Chris Miller were second from bottom in The Lancashire Woman’s County Division One North league whilst Sir Tom Finney’s were bottom.

Kendal had to play the game with just eleven players available in what was only the team’s fifth game of the season.

Kendal started brightly and created the first opportunity after some good play between Amy Siddall and Keira who set Aimee free before cutting inside and hitting a shot towards the top corner only for the keep to tip the ball onto the bar.

Ruby’s pace down the right hand side gave Kendal more opportunities where both her shots drifted wide of the post.

The visitors attack was well marshalled by Kendal’s improving defence as half time came with both teams level at the break.

Kendal opened the scoring at the start of the second half after Aimee burst forward and drove through the defence before producing a left foot shot which curled away from the keeper and in off the post.

Two minutes late Keira’s fine pass sent Aimee away who produced a great finish as Kendal went 2-0 up.

A lack of discipline from a visiting defender saw her sin binned for swearing at the ref, and this saw Kendal pick up the intensity as a mix up in defence saw Amy Glendenning score Kendal’s third, before Aimee went racing through to produce a calm finish and complete a fine hat-trick.

Kendal gave away a soft free kick where the visitors notched a late consolation before the ladies saw out the last ten minutes to get their first win of the season.

Kendal travel to play Whitehaven on Sunday.
