Kendal Rugby Clubs Second Team defeated Firwood Waterloo 22-17 at Mint Bridge in an entertaining encounter which was played on the all-weather pitch.

The Seconds who play in the NOWIRUL Baines Plumbing Division One league fielded one of their strongest teams of the season where players such as Liam Hayton, Joe Fiddler and Barney Coxon played alongside some of the Clubs current second team and Under 18 Colts players.

Firwood Waterloo went into the game in second place and sixteen points behind Macclesfield, while Kendal were eighth in the table.

However Kendal made a good start to the game after Barney Coxon went over the first try after just three minutes before Mc Kenzie Cousins successfully kicked the conversion as the Black & Ambers went 7-0 up.

Kendal continued to dominate and forced the visitors onto the back foot before they successfully added to their score when Mc Kenzie Cousins went over for the team’s second try of the game.

The Black and Ambers 12-0 ahead, went further clear of the visitors following Barney Coxons second try, and when Mc Kenzie Cousin kicked the conversion, Kendal were 19-0 ahead at half time.

However the visitors battled back and scored their first try six minutes into the second half, while Kendal struggled to regain their earlier momentum from the first half.

Kendal were forced back and began to give penalties away while Firwood Waterloo applied pressure, however Kendal defended bravely, forcing some last ditch tackles which were crucial in the game.

Firwood Waterloos pressure eventually told after sixty minutes when they scored their second try which was converted as the visitors were just seven points behind.

Kendal gave themselves a bit of breathing space after they kicked over a penalty between the posts as the Black Ambers were 10 points clear with just three minutes left.

The visitors scored another try in the last minute of the game however thankfully for Kendal there was no time left as the Black & Ambers kicked the ball into touch and celebrated a dramatic win.
