Seven goals including a spectacular David Foster overhead kick, some lovely passages of play and a 5-2 Kendal Town win.

This fixture against a young Carlisle United side might not have had the intensity of a league match, but it had more then enough to send the Parkside Road faithful home happy.

The home side stated very brightly with Foster and Alex Taylor probing a nevous looking Carlisle back line. Town’s opener came after just six minutes when United defender Aldred hesitated on a long ball and Taylor made the most of the space he had been given to nip in front of the defender collect the ball and fire a low finish into the net.

Not to be outdone David Foster was soon on the score sheet, converting the pick of the evenings goals. Another piece of woeful defending saw Aldred allow a ball to bounce high on the edge of the area, prompting Foster to leap into the air and pull off a hugely impressive bicycle kick that lobbed the keeper on 15 minutes.

The striker doubled his talley on 33 minutes after good work by Osman released Warmsley who sent a whipped cross in from the right where Foster’s connection ricocheted off a defender and flew past the keeper.

Carlisle weren’t completely dead and buried and scored on the verge of half time when Jan Kluknski met a Conner Tinnion cross to head past Newnes from close range.

Carlisle approached the second half with a far more positive attitude than they had shown in the first and strung together some nice passages of play with Tinnion prominent in most of his side’s better moves.

United deservedly dragged the deficit back to one goal on 67 minutes when substitute Cook collected Maewood’s deft pass to beat Newnes in the one on one.

It was cruel on the youngsters to see Kendal then ease into another gear and score two quick goals.

First Warren Beattie hit a low drive from inside the area that flew off each post before going in and minutes later Osman reacted quickest to Mulvaney’s knock down at the back post to rifle a shot past the keeper to make a 5-2 final score on a balmy night at Parkside.
