IT'S LADIES Night at Carlisle Races tonight (Monday) but it can be a man's world when LAKEMAN is fancied to go well in the £10,000 Edinburgh Woollen Mill Handicap, the showpiece race on the card.

Brian Ellison's Tillerman gelding won a six-furlong maiden at York in heavy ground last year and was placed three times in good nuerseries afterwards.

He's not broken any pots this time round, but a drop in the weights and ground with a bit of cut in it can seem him go close with Greg Fairley's expert handling a big bonus.

An Irish raider merits close inspection in the Carlisle Living Maidne Auction Stakes at 6.45.

Well-related ANTONIUS PIUS, connected to several winners on pedigree, runs for Rodger Sweeney, and would not have to be too exceptional to win this.

SILLY GILLY has sound credentials in the opening lady amateurs' race, while it might be taking a chance on ARTESIUM finding some of the form he showed last year as the Haafd gelding was a model of consistency before changing stables in the winter.

Mick Easterby's ANCIENT CROSS is primed to break his duck for the season in the 7.45 Beadle & Hil Handicap.

He had been knocking on the door recently and this stiff track will be well suited to the son of Machiavellian.

Other information: First race time : 5:45pm (race times are subject to change). Feature Race: Edinburgh Woollen Mill Handicap Stakes. Admission prices: Premier enclosure SOLD OUT, Grandstand & amp; Paddock £15, children under 16 admitted free, Seniors pay £10.

Guest star for the night is the lady who has caught the eye in the male-dominated world of darts. Blonde Russian sensation Anastasia Dobromyslova is the 'face' of Edinburgh Woollen Mill Ladies' Night.

The first 500 ladies through the entrances will be given a Debenhams goody bag.

The first 50 ladies at the Carlisle Living magazine trade stand will receive special goody bags from Carlisle's Lanes Shopping Centre. Copies of Carlisle Living magazine will be available to buy for £2 - including a free £2 bet with the Tote.

As well as that, everyone coming into the racecourse will be entered into a draw to win a Pequignet watch, earrings and bracelet, worth a combined total of £4,000.

There are prizes for the 'Best Dressed' lady and 'Best Hat', with the respective winners receiving £250 and £100 in cash from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Runner-up and third place in the 'Best Dressed' category get £100 and £50 respectively.

The two winners - along with Anastasia who will be wearing an outfit from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill and will help to judge the awards - will be driven around the racecourse in a Mini Convertible provided by the Lloyds Motor Group.

As well as all the horse racing, tribute band Fake That are in concert for one hour at the end of the evening.
