STUART Reid (Team Harbalife/Wheelbase.co.uk) put in a determined challenge to take the honours in the Capernwray Road Race, promoted by Lune RCC, on Sunday.

After a group of three went clear on the first lap, Reid and Dave Cook (Altura) bridged the gap before Cook, who had previously podiumed in the National Road Race Championship in 1996, attacked at the bottom of Sunny Bank.

Only Reid was able to respond, catching Cook by the summit and going clear on the last bend for a resounding victory, repeating his victory in the race in 2005.

Other Harbalife/Wheelbase riders Andy Hawden and Sam Jackson were fourth and sixth respectively.

LAZONBY in north Cumbria will be the focus of cycling attention this coming Sunday for the North West regional road racing championships.

Stuart Reid leads a seven-man Herbalife/Wheelbase squad in the Elite/1/2/3s race starting at 10am but the local sponsored team has a very strong line-up in the junior event starting five minutes later as Jonathon Knox, Laurence Brooking, James Dunlop and Sam Huddleston take on the best of the rest from the North West.

The championship HQ is Lazonby School.

Stuart Henry (Herbalife/Wheelbase) was sixth in the E/1/2s race at the SiS Preston Arena crits last Thursday, and he is down to ride for his team on Sunday.
