KENDAL County were punished for a very below-par performance in the second half that led to their first defeat in three games.

Hurst Green had the best of the first 10 minutes but County responded well and played some decent football for the next half hour until a slip in the defence allowed Chris Scott to run in and score.

In the second half County didn’t get going and couldn’t seem to retain the ball.

They were made to pay when the keeper was caught trying to dribble out of defence, leaving an easy tap in for Alan Coar.

The rest of the half got no better and with five minutes to go Wood punished more sloppy defending to cement a 3-0 defeat for County.

In Division One Ambleside conceded four goals in the last 14 minutes to fall to a 5-3 defeat at Hesketh Bank.

Shaun Gardner gave United the lead in the 18th minute but Richard Burns levelled five minutes before half time.

Gardner got his second goal in the 57th minute and Zak Clark made it 3-1 to Ambleside in the 72nd minute.

But four minutes later the wheels started to come off as Hesketh’s Danny Birkby pulled one back.

With six minutes of the game remaining Burns got his second goal of the match to equalise, and in the 87th minute Burns completed his hat-trick to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Birkby got a brace in injury time to cement the three points Hesketh Bank’s way.

Dalton United beat Millom 5-2, and came from behind twice to do so.

After Jamie Pattinson scored in the eighth minute Dalton pulled level through Tom Parker, but Millom went in front again thanks to Dave Walker.

But from the 35th minute Dalton were the only ones to score as Danny Leech netted to make it 2-2 at half time.

Gareth Jones put United in the lead on the hour mark, and 15 minutes later Phil Coward made it 4-2.

Chris Holmes got the fifth eight minutes from time.

In Division Two Milnthorpe Corinthians picked up a 1-0 victory at Barrow Wanderers, while Askam United reigned supreme with a 2-1 success at Ladybridge.

But it was a bad day for Gsk Ulverston Rangers. They were inflicted with a 7-0 hammering at Leyland United, who currently top Division Two.
