KENDAL Athletics Club moved into second place in the Cumbria Track and Field League with an outstanding performance at the second meeting in the series in Carlisle.

With two meetings remaining, the Kendal club trail Barrow and Furness Striders by only nine points.

Once again, the relay teams dominated the competition with impressive wins by the U13 girls, U13 boys, U15 girls and U17 boys, all helping the Kendal team to accumulate nearly 500 points so far.

The Kendal club has been represented by 31 athletes this season, most of who have competed in several events due to the comparatively small size of the club.

At Carlisle all competing athletes scored valuable points for the club with some outstanding individual performances.

Kendal were especially well-represented by their U15 girls and Allysia Hine finished first in the discus in only her first-ever meeting.

Becky Garnett also secured first place in the discus at the second time of trying, while Jessica Hodsman finished first in the 200m and the shot and third in the long jump.

Other notable results in this age group were Joelle Campbell (2nd in 100m, long jump and high jump), Nina Smart (2nd in the javelin and shot) and Jade Screen (2nd in discus, 3rd in shot).

These athletes were well-supported by Ben Abbott (1st in the U13 boys 100m, 3rd in long jump and high jump), Dan Harrop (1st in the U17 boys 100m), Charlie Hines (1st in the U17 girls 300m, 2nd in the 200m and the long jump) and Luc Morgan-Mythen, who scored a hat-trick of first places in the U20 men’s 100m, javelin and triple-jump.

The third Cumbria League meeting takes place at Whitehaven on July 18, when Kendal will aim to close the gap at the top still further.
