Kendal bounced back from defeat against table-topping Barrow last time out to record their second win in three league games by brushing aside bottom of the table Preston.

West Cliff has not always been the happiest hunting ground for Kendal in the past but the visitors chased down their victory target with more than 22 overs to spare.

Earlier in the piece, an impressive all-round bowling performance saw Kendal make light work of the Preston batting line-up, dismissing the home side for only 108 inside 40 overs.

After being invited to bat, Preston were immediately in trouble as Jack White bowled Max Thoburn and were reeling further at 18-2 as Adam Cowperthwaite removed Ben Harrison.

Yasin Patel and Preston professional Soyeb Dukanwala then added the 25 – the highest partnership of the innings – before both fell in quick succession.

Ramsbottom professional Pieter Malan accounted for Dukanwala, caught by Nick Lewthwaite, before Adam Cowperthwaite bowled Patel on his way to figures of 2-24 from eight overs.

Malan replaced Alex Doolan who has joined up with Australia A for their tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Wickets continued to fall consistently with skippers past and present combining to remove Preston captain Sajid Patel, with Chris Miller the bowler and Stu Parkin the catcher.

Miya Ahmed Lunat hit four boundaries on his way to a top score of 29 from 40 balls before suffering a run out while wicketkeeper Javaid Hussain dug in for a gutsy 16 off 59 balls.

Miller accounted for Hussain and finished with figures of 3-22 after also bowling Imtiaz Matak, while Malan took 2-24.

Kendal suffered an early setback in their run chase as they lost opener Paul Dodds for a duck, which brought Malan to the crease who together with Darren Moore steadied the ship.

South African Malan proved the dominant partner and struck six boundaries in a 50-ball knock of 44 before being caught by Shabnan Ali off the bowling of Patel.

Terry Hunte made a run-a-ball 11 before becoming Andrew Starkie’s second victim, also caught by Ali, as Darren Moore continued to stand firm.

Victory was in sight after Moore and Jack White took the Kendal score to 98 before the former fell to Dukanwala after amassing 26.

The off-spinner, who originates from Gujarat in India, also accounted for White as Oliver Field and Shane Hyland guided the visitors home, securing the 12 points on offer.
