AMBLESIDE Cricket Club picked up the first silverware of the Westmorland League season as they defeated Ingleton in the Division Two cup final.

The 48-run victory on finals day at Milnthorpe Cricket Club marks their first win in the competition since 1983.

But it was not all plain sailing as Ambleside struggled early on after being put in to bat.

After some tight bowling from Ingleton, Paul Johnson knocked 27 from 17 balls to give Ambleside a slim chance on 101 runs, while Graham Kellet took 4-16.

Ingleton were favourites as they took to the crease and Ambleside needed early wickets. They were not forthcoming though and Kellett was dropped in the first over.

With just six overs to go, Ingleton tried to accelerate from 44-2 but the wickets fell regularly as Barnaby Wileman took control and three wickets for nine runs, while teammate Nathan Tollady (4-10) and James Boyd (3-3) restricted Ingleton to just 53.

SHIRESHEAD lifted the Laurelle Twenty20 Cup on Sunday after defeating Silverdale by 38 runs.

Electing to bat seemed a bad call as they struggled to 28-4 but a fifth wicket stand of 39 put them back on course, with Gareth Jennings knocking 30.

And a late 37 from Steve Yates helped them to 149-9.

John Mason went early as Silverdale chased 150 but Graham Dodds (53) and M Webster (34) took them to 79-1.

Dave Jack stuck to his task well though with 2-32, before Shah (2-16) and Phil Oliver (1-12) kept Silverdale at bay and they closed on 111-7.

WARTON took advantage of abandonments elsewhere to move clear at the top of division one.

With games involving Arnside and Westgate falling foul of the weather, Warton strode to a 12 point win at Silverdale to go 22 points clear, with just six games remaining.

Warton bowled out their hosts for just 87, before storming to 92 for the loss of just three wickets.

Heysham kept up their mid-season form with a 12 point home win against Sedgwick.

Graham Cassidy bowled 6-23 as the hosts took little time in bowling out Segdwick. Supported by Sam Calverley (4-31) he had the visitors all out for 65.

And the runs were knocked off for just two wickets in 20.2 overs with Lee Calverley (27no) and Mikey Barker (16no) the main contributors.

Shireshead collected 12 points with a last over win at Bolton le Sands.

After making 146-8, Shires took control with the ball and were homing in on victory as Sands made 47-3 with 12 overs left.

But the impressive Mike Park took 4-4 and Ryan Wells 3-6 as Sands dramatically collapsed and the victory was wrapped up with five balls to spare, Sands all out for 55.

Games at Milnthorpe (v Arnside), Kirkby Lonsdale (v Burneside) and Windermere (v Westgate) were all abandoned, with each team picking up six points.
