Both Kendal County and Ambleside Utd, moving to the West Lanc’s league has certainly been one of the main talking points during the off season.

It’s a move which doesn’t come as a surprise as the general feeling is that they have slogged it out in The Westmorland League for such a long time, making that next step up is definitely the right move.

I fancy both side’s to make a positive impact in a division in which they can more than hold their own in.

The opening day West lancs fixtures also throw up some intriguing tussles, with county making the trip to Walney Island on the opening day before hosting Ambleside 2 day’s later in what’s usually the top clash in the Westmorland Football League.

Ambleside meanwhile travel to Ladybridge on the opening day, before the away clash at Kendal County.

However with both out of the Westmorland League, the first division will certainly lose 2 good side’s, and of course this means that the 1st division is going to operate with 12 side’s, for the season, before the total restructuring of the divisions for 2011-2012.

I feel that the division will have more than 2 team’s challenging for the title, infact I can see 5 or 6 main challengers. Which will make it a very close campaign.

Other side’s such as Kirkoswald, Penrith and Appleby will also fancy their chances. Here is a list of all the side’s competing in next season’s Westmorland League 1st division: 1,Appelby, 2, Burneside, 3, Carvetti Utd, 4, Endmoor KGR, 5, Kendal Celtic, 6. Keswick, 7, Kirkoswald, 8. Penrith Ranger’s, 9, Sedbergh Wanderer’s, 10,Shap, 11, Staveley Utd, 12, Wetherigg’s Utd.

My next blog will look indepth at division 2 and 3!
