CHAMPIONS-elect Kirkoswald moved within six points of claiming the Division One title in the Bluefin Westmorland Football League with a 2-0 away win at Kendal Celtic.

The visitors dominated but created few clear goal scoring chances with the best efforts of the first half going to Niall Renwick, but Dean Wicks in the Celtic goal saved.

Kirkoswald found their way through the Celtic resolve on the hour mark when Jonathan Edwards struck home to the bottom right-hand corner.

And the league leaders sealed victory late on when Alex Atkinson shot home.

Penrith Rangers look likely to be Kirkoswald’s closest title challengers but they succumbed to a 3-2 loss against Keswick in the High Sheriffs Cup at the weekend.

Wetheriggs United’s outside hopes of the title remain on course though after they defeated Staveley United 1-0.

In Division Two Ibis were 3-1 winners against Appleby Re.

Josh Ford opened the scoring to put Ibis 1-0 up, only for Appleby to come back and even things up before half time.

The second half belonged to Ibis though and Darren Huck in particular, who scored two goals, the first a screamer into the top corner as Ibis secured a deserved 3-1 win.

Ambleside United Reserves’ march to the division two title suffered a setback as they were defeated 1-0 against third-placed Langwathby United.
