Morecambe 0.

Kendal 0.

KENDAL Ladies played on three fronts last weekend, including a North Women’s Hockey League 2 West League match against Morecambe.

In a physical fixture, Kendal monopolised possession for long periods without making it count on the scoresheet and had to settle for a goalless draw.

Kendal's Netherwood League side put up a spirited display on Sunday against Glaxo, coming from a goal behind as Andrew Elvey levelled the scores in a 1-1 draw.

Kristen Pearson took the player award and under-16s Sian Johnson, Laura Braithwaite and Chloe Moffatt all impressed.

Kendal then faced Dalston in the Cumbria League.

Kendal took charge of the fixture, and Dalston's response made for a great game of excellent passing and end-to-end play.

Kendal scored twice in the first half as Andrea Elvey's shot was deflected in off a defender and Vicky Jones converted a flick to make it 2-0.

Dalston pulled a goal back, but Kendal again got on top in the second half after the defence worked extremely hard.

Kendal's Chelsey Greenwood then twice beat the keeper in one-on-one situations and although Dalston responded, Kendal ran out 4-2 winners.

Greenwood took the player award and Helen Hartley and Becky Hemsley also did well.

Ambleside 7.

GSK South Lakes 0.

A FOUR-timer from Grachelle Daley featured in Ambleside’s 7-0 victory over GSK South Lakes, though incredibly the winners were restricted to a single-goal advantage before the break.

A probing cross was deflected into the path of Donna Robinson, who slotted the ball past the advancing keeper as defences were generally on top.

Daley started the scoring spree in the second half with a drive from in off the right wing. She finished with a shot from a difficult angle.

A neat one-two with Amanda Faulkner set up Daley for her second and Hannahlise Morris got on to the scoresheet with a sweet shot.

Daley’s hat-trick came via a penalty-corner conversion and Kim Lupton made it 6-0 when she knocked in from a rebound.

Daley fastened on to Robinson’s defence-splitting pass to dispatch her fourth goal of the afternoon to round off a convincing Ambleside display.

Kirkby Stephen 3.

Preston 1.

KIRKBY Stephen ladies 1st XI recorded their first victory of the season in the fiercely competitive Northern Women’s Hockey League 2 West against an undefeated new side, Preston, on home turf.

Kirkby were quick to take control, and pressed the travelling side high up the field from the start. It did not take long for Kirkby to start hitting the target, forcing the Preston to defence into making mistakes. Debbie Barr opened the scoring when she drilled home the shot from a penalty corner. Lucy Potter worked hard through the centre of midfield, creating attacking moves as well as helping in defence. Hard work from her fellow midfielders Lil Prime, Andrea Dixon and Debbie Barr meant Kirkby were always applying the pressure. Once again, Barr’s involvement created a goal. This time, she saw Mel Earl in the shooting area and delivered an early ball. Earl then took the reverse-shot early, taking the keeper by surprise and sneaking the ball across goal into the corner.

After the half-time break the home side dominated in all areas of the field. Again Kirkby found the net. This time Lil Prime struck from the edge of the area with a super strike to beat the keeper. Preston managed a late consolation goal, but Kirkby took the three points.

Kirkby Lonsdale 7.

Keswick 1.

KIRKBY LONSDALE broke through the Keswick defence after ten minutes for Laura Dixon to open their account and constant pressure brought a second goal, from Alex Lavery-Hoff.

Shortly after, Dixon made it 3-0 at half-time and Catherine Simons tucked away a fourth from a short-corner chance.

Keswick replied with a drive that pulled a goal back, but Kirkby cancelled it out with Simons scoring twice more with accurate strikes, while Lavery-Hoff sneaked one in at the post.

Overall, it was a great team effort by all against a Keswick side that battled to the end.
