AMBLESIDE emerged victories after a hard-fought victory against far-flung opposition.

The South Lakes side travelled to Liverpool to face Ramsey from the Isle of Man on Sunday, November 2 in the England Hockey Vase knockout competition.

It proved to be a close encounter with only one goal - but it went Ambleside's way.

They had to soak up early pressure from the islanders but the defence of Alice Bowler, Sarah Martindale and Claire Munday was in superb form.

The team tried to link the play together but chances were few and far between.

Ailsa Richardson and Jess Young worked tirelessly in midfield to provide a cutting pass through to the forwards.

Ambleside had to wait until half way though the second half for a real sight of goal.

Danya Cannon earned a penalty corner and her strike was neatly converted at the near post by Hannahlise Morris.

Ambleside tried to keep possession but Ramsey pushed hard for the equaliser.

It was only great goalkeeping from Heidi Kenny and a goal line clearance that prevented them from getting it.

They held firm and Ambleside are in the draw for the next round.
