KENDAL swimmers had a magnificent weekend competing in Cumbria’s Winter Meet at Workington.

The 24 strong squad came away with a a host of wins, personal bests and a grand total of 74 Cumbria Age Group qualifying times.

Elliot Woodburn, nine, entered six events and won every one.

He got off to a brilliant start and from the very first exploded off the block in the 200m free and immediately put himself on the front, setting a devastating pace to which his opponents had no answer.

Turning to the 50m breaststroke sprint he again showed he had too much skill for his opponents, powering into an unbeatable lead and hitting the finish by a clear six seconds.

His time of 3:43.22 was faster than all the 9 and 10yr olds put together in the 200m breaststroke.

Dan Armstrong was another 200m breaststroker who showed great skill and technique to hold off his challengers and take a well earned win in style.

Lucy Sargeant, ten, was on fire and she too proved unbeatable at 200m breaststroke, as well as the 50m butterfly.

Her brother Ollie also joined the action in the 200m individual medley for a win.

Eleven-year-old Alice Eastwood made her bid for glory in the 200m breaststroke.

An elated Josie Johnson also emerged as a winner with a brilliant piece of sprinting to take the 50m freestyle title for eleven-year-olds.

Not just content with wins the squad also took a total of 28 second and third places to record their best performance for a number of years.
