KIRKBY Lonsdale Hockey Club are celebrating their most outstanding weekend of hockey yet with a double celebration.

The U16 girls side headed to Cannock for the England Hockey National Finals weekend and returned as runners up, while the U12 team were winners of the U12 North In2Hockey Finals in Leeds.

The U16s reached the finals by topping their northern pool and faced a tough Beeston side in their opener in Cannock.

The girls put pressure on Beeston's defence from the start and Lauren Challis opened the scoring midway through the second half.

Rosie Dale scored a second from a penalty flick as Kirkby took control of the group with a 2-1 win.

A game against ISCA from Exeter was drawn 1-1 and they reached the final by defeating Surbiton.But they came up against a strong Wakefield side and despite Ellie Thompson equalising at 1-1 Wakefield were to lift the trophy with a 3-1 victory.

The U12 side won their pool with victories against Alderley Edge, Preston, Ben Rhydding and Bacchanalians with Holly Keelan, Scarlet Dale and Fiona Crackles.

The girls won their semi-final 2-1 against Morpeth to set up a rematch with Alderley Edge.

And they claimed the title with a keenly contested 2-1 win.

Head coach Jill Dale said: “This has been an outstanding weekend of hockey for Kirkby Lonsdale. I am extremely proud of both the U16 and U12 Girls teams. Both teams are a dream to coach.”
