Southport 0 - 55 Kendal Wasps

VANESSA Temple scored her twentieth try in six matches as Kendal Wasps demolished Southport to enter the Christmas break unbeaten and sitting pretty at the top of NC North West.

Southport, who are second in the table, started the game with a spell of pressure but the Wasps stood up to the test and after a quick turnover the ball was spread wide to Hayley Hodgson who beat several defenders on her way to the try line.

The Southport pack took the game to the Wasps but the Kendal forwards were up to the challenge and repelled any attack with some excellent defence.

The Wasps were playing almost perfect rugby for the wet conditions, absorbing Southport pressure and then hitting them with great counter attacking rugby.

Further tries in the first half came from Abby Bland and yet another hat trick from the excellent Temple.

The second half started in familiar fashion as excellent pressure from the Wasps forced a Southport mistake enabling Temple to score an opportunist try.

Still, Southport didn’t give up, with their strong running back row and lively scrum half looking dangerous when in possession.

But second half tries were added by Rachelle Malette, Hayley Hodgson and Temple scored her fifth try of the game. Bland added five conversions to bring the final score to 55-0.

Tammy Brocklebank was forward of the match and Bland was chosen as back of the match as the Wasps have now gone two games in a row without conceding a try.

The Wasps have a tough national cup game against Sunderland at home on Sunday December 14; kick off is 2pm.
