At Kendal's Elephant Yard shopping complex in Cumbria, between November 6-9, come and say goedendag, salut, ciao, hola and dzjén dobry to a host of Continental goods retailers. The historic Elephant Yard will become a mass of colour and a melting pot of different cultures and cuisines, as the prominent shopping area hosts its first Continental market.

Traders from France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland and Poland will be showcasing a wide variety of fine foods and wares.

Biscuits from Britanny and Italian olives will compete with Italian nougat, saucy saucissons, Alpine Tartiflette and pungent cheeses. Charcuterie, fresh breads and croissants will also be on display for sale.

Any nip in the air can quickly be quashed with a tipple of Muscadet wine produced on a family vineyard in Frontignan, whilst those whose hunger is for gift purchase can examine the beautifully crafted leather handbags, Marseille soaps, children¹s toys and elegant pashminas.

Elephant Yard Centre Manager, Peter Boyd, says: "At a time when many Cumbrian shoppers are taking the decision to save money by not heading to Europe this year, we will be bringing the finest European produce to them. This will be our first entrée into the fabulous retail world that surrounds a Continental market and our regular retailers are looking forward to learning more about products that traditionally tempt our European neighbours at this time of year.

"We can¹t wait to discover which products top the most-wanted list in Kendal and hope that many shoppers will be delighted with the new tastes and products they discover whilst shopping Œon the Continent¹, in the heart of Kendal.

The Continental market will be at Elephant Yard from 8.30am-5.30pm from Thursday, November 6 to Saturday, November 8 and from 11.00am to 6pm on Sunday November 9. For more information contact Elephant Yard on 01539 720170 or visit
