WE are now past Easter and hopefully past winter and into better weather.
So here is a really thirst quenching wine from Alsace; the region on the eastern borders of France world-famous for its distinctive premium white wines, which tend to balance fruitiness with fresh acidity and an exotic hint of spice.
This particular wine is made from 100 per cent Riesling by the experienced Alsace winemaker Jean Michel Lihrmann of the Cave de Turckheim: the famous co-operative. The wine is a perfect match as an apertif, or with oriental food and maybe skewered barbecued prawns. A steal at £8.49 from Marks and Spencer.
The beer for this week is from the World Top Brewery and called Anglers Reward.
The brewery is a micro brewery that uses as much local produce for its beers as possible and is made just outside York. The beer itself has a refreshing golden pale colour, followed by a fruity bitterness and a lingering aftertaste, which matches it up well to go with barbecued chicken and fish or as the name suggests reminiscing about the one that got away and drink on its own. Available from Booths £1.89.
