Whistler Blackcomb

When I was selecting the city for my student exchange one of the main reasons for choosing Vancouver was its proximity to the world famous ski resort, Whistler Blackcomb. Only a two-hour drive north of the city along the stunning Sea to Sky Highway this mountain resort has been at the top of my ‘must visit’ list since I first set foot on Canada’s West Coast.

Inspired by Jack Kerouac’s On The Road I’ve been dreaming of an American road trip for years. Last week was Spring Break and my friends and I jumped at the chance to hire a car, drive down through Washington and back up along the Oregon coast.

Ice Hockey: Vancouver Giants

I quickly realised upon arriving in Canada I couldn’t spend a year here without going to watch an ice hockey game. After discovering that Canucks tickets cost close to a small fortune I settled for the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Vancouver Giants as a well-priced alternative. I’ve got to admit that I was a bit dubious at first as to whether I was going to enjoy the game but I quickly realised why ice hockey is so popular and such a huge part of Canadian culture.
